About Copperton
Located in the West-central portion of the Salt Lake Valley. The Copperton Township's boundaries extend from 7000 South on the North to 11800 South on the South. The western boundary is the Salt Lake and Tooele County line that follows the ridge of the Oquirrh Mountains. The irregular boundaries of South Jordan and West Jordan cities create the Eastern boundary at approximately 8000 West and also State Hwy. 111. The Township land area encompasses approximately 21,440 acres or 33.5 square miles.
The Copperton Community was originally a mining town servicing the Bingham Canyon Utah Kennecott Copper Mining operation.
Copperton is a Township within Salt Lake County and is governed by the Salt Lake County Mayor and County Council. The Mayor is responsible for executive oversight and the day to day administration of the different functions and services provided to county residents. The nine County Council members are responsible for legislative actions, ordinances and budget approvals.
The Copperton Planning Commission is responsible for planning and zoning matters for areas within the township.
The Copperton Community Council is a volunteer organization established and comprised of local citizens concerned with issues related to Copperton. The Council meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm in the Lions Club building.
Copperton population is approximately 750.
